Transfagarasan Highway and Balea Lake

Balea Lake - a beautiful creation of nature surrounded by Fagaras Mountains - view is absolutely amazing and according to many people who visited Balea Lake, this is one of the most wonderful places on earth.

Since you are at over 2000 meters, it's always quite cold but the clear blue sky, the fresh air, the silence, and breathtaking views will make your journey memorable. Peaks and a view fit for Alps or even the Himalayas are waiting for you.

Balea Lake is accessible by car on the Transfagarasan Road during the summer, and the rest of the year by a cable car from Balea Waterfall.

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson named Transfagarasan Road "the best road in the world." This is where eyes and mind are impressed by the magic of surrounding landscapes. Fascinating, brilliant, impressive, fantastic or an unforgettable experience are just a few words that people have said about this place. So, if you want a great adventure, you really need to come and visit it.

Following the Transfagarasan Highway over to the other side of the Fagaras Mountains, you reach the quite spectacular lake Vidraru. Dam at lake Vidraru is huge (166 m) - a startling engineering. If you are not a great fan of heights, walking close to the edge of the footpath will definitely make you feel dizzy.
